This article in MIT’s Tech Review has some great work on the design conceptualization for this innovative concept created by Nicholas Negroponte of MIT’s Media Lab. Negroponte, along with MIT researchers Seymour Papert, Joseph Jacobson, and other colleagues, announced the $100 Laptop initiative back in January. The endeavor has corporate sponsorship from AMD, Brightstar, Google, News Corp., and Red Hat.

Design students who create products for disabled people are hoping to attract the attention of manufacturers at The Independent Living in London this week. This concept uses digital pictures that fit into an electronic dock, the user simply taps the selected photo to dial a number.

More medical robot news. This article on the use of medical robots in Mexico City to reduce costs and provide students improved training. The $1.3 million facility has 24 robotic patients and a computer software program that can simulate illnesses ranging from diabetes to a heart attack. The robots are dummies complete with mechanical organs, synthetic blood and mechanical breathing systems.
